The Tall Pawns Open was held in Bozeman March 4-5 and attracted 35 players, more than half Juniors (under the age of 20). The top 3 Montana finishers were all high school students, led by Alex Karns whofollowed up his performance at the Winter Thaw by winning the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record. Tarquin Bennion & Ben Curtis tied for second with Megan Chen of Chicago, who was playing in hersecond Montana tournament. Ten of the MT Junior entrants saw their ratings increase from the tournament and six earned Grand Prix points. They will look to continue their ratings gains in Billings at the Open!The Winter Thaw garnered 36 players in Helena on February 4-5. It ended with a 4 way tie for 1st, including 2 state champions, Wilton Strickland & Jim Skovron and 2 high school students, Alex Karns &Thomas Walthall. Overall 5 of the top 8 finishers were juniors.
