2020 Montana Chess Junior (Online) Open – May 16

 

Outstanding tournament. It was great to see a few of the players finally get to play each other. Some amazing talent at the 4th and 5th grade level. We had 19 participants from all over Montana as well guest players from Wyoming and Canada.

-Overall/High School: Thomas Walthall of Loyola HS with 5.0 Points.
-Middle School: Aden Fisher of Corvallis MS 3.0 Points (on tiebreakers over Molly Tefft of Sacajawea MS).
-Elementary School: Paul Harmon of Helena Home School 4.0 Points (on tiebreakers over Mateo Jackson of Alberta, Canada). Paul’s match against Thomas was probably the best of the tournament. Could have gone either way and it went down to the wire.
-Biggest Upset: Torrin Kale of St. Francis-Billings (586 over 980).
