2019 – July 26-27, Billings Quads

Billings July Quads

Billings chess players tried to beat the heat this past weekend (7/26-27) by playing some rated chess indoors! A summer quad, this time drawing 12 players, was organized for the second year in a row. The players were neatly divided into 3 playing sections based on rating. The time control was Game in 90 minutes with a 5 second delay. The first game was played Friday night, with the following two on Saturday. The Billings Chess Club is grateful to Adam Grill, who hosted the event at his Legacy Trucking business.

The King section thanked Sherwood Moore for traveling all the way from Missoula, but then handed him 3 losses for his efforts. Dustin, David, and Dan, the 3 D’s of Billings Chess, all drew each other to finish in a 3-way tie with 2/3 points. (that has a nice ring to it, perhaps a Billings chess team in the future?)

The Knights were dominated by the young Christian Fink who cruised to a perfect score 3/3. Adam Milligan participated in the tournament after last playing in the Barto in 2011. Brian Murnion and Adam Grill rounded out this group.

Michael Troyer won the Pawn Section, also with a perfect score! This group only played 2 games each due to a no show. Seth Milligan (Adam’s son) played in his first rated event. Ted Hash, a staple at the Billings Club, also participated.

Many thanks to all who participated!
