The 91st Montana Open took place in Bozeman on April 18-19 with 44 players from 3 states. There were many long, hard fought games and the tournament ended with a 5 way tie for first between Matt Guthrie, Ben Vogel, Matteo Nero, Dan Mattson and John Julian with 4 points each. Since the top 3 players in the Open qualify to play in the Closed, this brought the standard tie breakers into play (note – determining who gets the automatic Closed invites is the ONLY thing the tie breakers are used for in the Open). This resulted in the top 3 being: Matt, Ben, & Matteo, who all qualified for the Closed.
The next score group at 3.5 was another group of 5 players, including Wolfgang Paine who won the under 1600 prize after starting the tournament rated 300 points below the rest of the score group.
