Dennis Petrak, former MCA President passed away in August. Thanks to Thad Suits who sent the following note:
Although I didn’t see Dennis much once he quit competitive chess, I carry some fond memories of him. He and I used to meet every Monday evening for some spirited games at John Barto’s house in Great Falls. Dennis struck me as quintessentially Western, right down to his playing style. He favored what he dubbed “The High Plains Defense”, and “The Raging Bull” – unorthodox systems of his own creation that were always tough nuts to crack.
Dennis was always fun to play, and I was sorry when he stopped coming to club. I wish I had gotten to know him better, but I will always be grateful for the camaraderie, friendly competition, and good sportsmanship that he brought to the chess table every time we played.
